Sokheng

Kirsten and I leave for Cambodia tomorrow.  It always takes a lot of planning and preparation, and then the time there is so full and busy.  When we try to explain to folks exactly what we do over there we are often met with blank stares.  One thing we always do, no matter what the specific task, is make relationships: we meet, work with, love and support people.

We met Sokheng on our last trip.  He works for Asian Hope and was our translator when we visited the families of students in the Village Development Project schools. He and Kirsten share a love of photography, and he will be taking her workshop during this coming trip.

Sokheng is a great example of God’s working in Cambodia.  Only about two percent of the people there are Christian.  Sokheng began his relationship with Christ in 2008, when a friend invited him to attend a cell group.

Sokheng is a great example of God’s working in Cambodia.  Only about two percent of the people there are Christian.  Sokheng began his relationship with Christ in 2008, when a friend invited him to attend a cell group.  That was a stressful time for Sokheng.  The Cambodian government had just seized his family’s home on Beoung Kok Lake, and his mother was suffering from a neurological disease affecting her heart.  God later healed her completely, and the family believed through the miracle.

Since becoming Christian, Sokheng has lived a life of service–a worship leader, a Sunday-school teacher, a cell-group leader.  He met his fiancee, Mala, while participating in an outreach to Cambodians living at the local garbage dump, leading worship services on the trash heap.

Sokheng is an example of what we are so honored to be a part of:  Cambodians in Christ reaching out to other Cambodians, and making a difference.
